BEAUTY REGIME

Changing temperature means everything around you changes. What your skin goes through in winter is so not cool and clearly needs some adjustments. Here are a few tips on how to look after your skin and hair this fall.

Surgery who? Forget about it. It doesn’t take a knife under your skin to look good. You have the power to have the best skin ever. Here's how you can do it:

    • Moisturize your hair frequently.
    • Drink more water, the key to hydrated skin comes from inside out.
    • We all love coffee in winter, but erase up on caffeinated beverages. They tend to dry out your skin.
    • Avoid washing your hair with soaps that contain sulfates.
    • Dry skin is itchy and uncomfortable more especially in winter, oil up, use hydrating oil  base  moisturizing.
    • Just like summer time, it’s important to use sunscreens which contain cocoa/shea  butter aloe for moisturizing oils for your winter
    • Sleep, Sleep, Sleep. Sleep, beauty requires enough rest.
    • Blush, winter often leads to your skin beauty pale.
    • Lips tend to dry especially in winter, chapped lips need a lip balm

      HAIR

Winter is the time when everyone wants to wear protective hairstyle for many reasons. Well to feel warm you have to feel good and look good.  Winter is all about cooling it down, so is choosing a color and style for your hair. We all love playing around with our hair but truth be told, maintaining your hair is not as easy as A,B,C.

Hair expects recommend these 8 simple steps to take for your hair in winter:

Avoid over washing your hair in winter, in tends to over dry faster and it adds problems of hair fall and breakage.

  • Avoid all chemical hair treatments in the winter months.

  • Massage  scalp with olive oil or coconut oil.

  • Try to minimize the use of blow dryer curling and straightening iron.

  • Think hair extensions.

  • Usually pleat your hair in winter. It’s the best way to avoid breakage.

  • Short hair does it for winter.

  • Braid are a must do for fall, not to mention how useful there are in growing your hair fast.

WARM WINTER SOUPS

Winter is upon us and if you are anything like me and you find yourself hungry every 5 minutes.  You need something warm and filling. One of my favourite "winter foods" is soup. There's nothing like a hot bowl of soup to warm us from the inside out and help make these cold winter days and nights a little more bearable.

I always try to experiment in the kitchen and there are some great food blogs out there that make me feel like a chef when preparing my favourite meals. I chose five of my absolutely favourite soups and decided to share them with you. I need to give credit where it due so I've attached the link of the blogs where I took the recipes from, who knows you might find other great recipes to use . I hope you like them as much as I do and that you also share some great winter recipes with me.
Enjoy!!

MY NEW BEAUTY DISCOVERY

You all know I love experimenting with new stuff, I'm my own guinea pig, lol. While in Durban I came across this coconut oil and I remember always hearing of all the benefits of the coconut. In Brazil they drink coconut water straight from the coconut, Madonna even decided to bottle it and export to the USA. She calls it fountain of youth and in Angola we love eating coconut while in Mozambique most of their foods are made with coconut and it's all so delicious.

But when I came across this oil I had something else in mind. I asked some girls what they use it for and they said they use it on their hair then I specifically remembered someone saying that it's also great for your skin .So I started using it on my hair and skin and so far  I love the results. My hair gets this great texture when I put it on. I've also realised that it has gotten softer and stronger.

My skin has this gorgeous glow. I usually mix the oil with my body cream and i love how it feels on my body. Just the other day I was too lazy to wash my face and remove my makeup. It was late and I was exhausted. The coconut oil was right next to me so I put some in a cotton disk and my makeup came off beautifully. So I accidentally found another use to it. I love it.

I bought this at a Shoprite in Durban, because I wasn't sure i would find it in Joburg. I bought  10 bottles and the great thing is that it's really inexpensive(also a plus). When you buy it, it will probably be solidified and look like this.

Just run it in hot water and it will go back to it's liquid form and look like that. What I do everyday before taking my bath is putting it in a container with hot water so that when I come out, it's ready for use. So now this is my new best friend until I accidentally bump into something else, lol. Thought i would share it with you and I hope u like it as much as I do!

DO YOU WANT FIRM AND PERKY BREASTS
STEP 1

Here are some tips  for Firm Breasts which I see working (don't ask me the science behind it. I have no idea. All i know is that it works FOR ME)

1) Massage each breast with cocoa butter cream mixed with Bio oil for about a minute or 2 in an upwards motion. For best results do it twice daily.

2)When applying cream to your chest area, ALWAYS do it with an upwards motion (even if it's your normal daily cream. You won't see the difference now, but you can thank me in a few years)

3) The trick is to start early, this is not a miracle treatment. It works best if you start doing it when you are still young.I have been doing this since I was 21, maybe that's why it has worked so well.

4) The Law of Gravity is "what goes up must come down" so if you have had a child or you have naturally saggy breasts etc, don't despair. There are a lot of treatments out there to help. Just inform yourself and always remember that your HEALTH comes first and the BEST treatment you can give yourself is Confidence!!

STEP 2

Forget push up bras and annoying inserts. All you need to do is follow these three do-at-home exercises for firm, lifted and toned breasts.

1. PUSH UPS

"Dynamic contractions take place with push-ups that tighten your chest muscles. Muscular strength around the arms and shoulders increases too," says fitness expert Jeraz Bhujwala. Three sets of 15-20 push-ups every day will do the trick.

  • Kneel on the floor with your feet crossed at the ankles. Press your knees together and place your hands on the floor, slightly ahead of and further apart than your shoulders.
  • Ensure that your knees, hips and shoulders are in straight angles.
  • Slowly lower your upper body to floor and push back to the original position. If you cannot manage a full push-up, take it halfway down until your strength improves.

2. CHEST PRESSES

This exercise needs weights. Do three sets of chest presses thrice a week with 20 repetitions each.

  • Lie on your back on the floor with your feet placed in front of your buttocks, knees bent.
  • Lift the weights above you with the backs of your hands facing you. Your arms should be straight. Do not lock your elbows.
  • Slowly bend your arms so that your elbows are at 90 degrees
  • Return to the starting position. Give a break of four seconds between repetitions.

3. DIPS

In addition to strengthening your chest muscles, dips also improve your posture. Three sets of dips with 20 repetitions each done thrice a week will work on your chest muscles and triceps.

  • Stand with your back facing the back of a chair and place your feet as far apart as your hips. Place your palms on the back of the chair.
  • Keep your back straight and close to the chair.
  • Lower yourself until your arms and knees are bent at 90 degrees.
  • Push back to the original position until your arms are straight, but not locked.

FANMAIL

Dear Weza

I don't know how I can out into words what you have done for me, but I'm gonna try. You have managed to tap into a place deep within my soul that I thought nobody could ever get to. You have been such a huge part of my life. I've cried, laughed, learned but through it all you have been there. Okay maybe not in person, but through your interviews, your shows, articles, hard work, motivating tweets and your blog, you have helped me keep pushing. You as a woman has inspired me to keep pushing forward. To never let fear keep me from my dreams. Because you have been so open and honest about your personal trials and tribulations, you've allowed us to deal with ours and know that its OKAY. Its okay to cry, be discouraged, to feel lost, as long as we use those things to make us STRONGER and not weaker. I support you not only because of your undeniable talent, but because you've made me a strong young woman. How could I not be there for you when it seems at times that you were the ONLY one that was there for me. Even when you didn't know it. You share a connection with us your fans that nobody can understand. I still reckon the day I met you at Eastgate Mall for the first time, you were so sweet and kind and you had an amazing smile. I wish to meet you again and tell you in person how much I Love You. I'll never stop showing my love, Never stop supporting you, I'll never leave you, because you my heart would never let me. I love you, Appreciate you. Thank you. God bless you.

Sincerely Hlonie!

SPRING/SUMMER 2012

I could not resist the urge to share with you what I think will be trendy this SPRING/SUMMER 2012. For the next few weeks watch out as I share with you some tips on wardrobe, fashion, grooming and definitely STYLING. As you all know I am a shoe freak at heart therefore I will dedicate a separate month for shoes alone. You will see as we go along.
COLOUR
Colour is the key to bringing out your style. Not every colour out there is meant for you, watch out for that. The 5 colours to look out for this SPRING/SUMMER 2012 are:

Tangerine – A deep orange with a touch of red in it….(very sexy colour). It is a must have.

Green – A lady can never have enough green

Coral/Cerise pink – Nowadays there is enough coral pink to go around for all of us. So why not join the rest of us and get yourself something pink?

Mint- Surprised?? Don’t be. Mint is a beautiful, subtle and very elegant color. In a world of it’s own. Paired with the right nail color and make up you will make heads turn

White – this is a classic colour and if you don’t have it in your wardrobe it’s about time you bought yourself something white. The best place to start is with a nice crisp classic shirt that you can wear anytime with formal pants when going to that meeting or with jeans. Or alternatively a dress.

So there you go…it’s the perfect time to evaluate that wardrobe baby…HAPPY SHOPPING!!!!

SHOES!!!!

You all know that I LOVE shoes right? So I decided to take my obsession a little further, I started taking pictures of the shoes people have been wearing to events. Some are beautiful, others are... How shall I put it...horrible!

I wanna know what you all think... YAY or NAY! Share with me your taste in shoes!

Tribute to Nelson Mandela

I was asked along with SK and Dineo from Channel O to be part of  a "Tribute to Mandela" video, by reading some of his most famous quotes! I didn't even hesitate, this is one of my proudest projects to date. When I found out that it would be shot at his house in Soweto (which is open to the public). I can't explain what I felt, I'm hardly at a lack for words but this was one of those moments!

For a few hours, I felt like I was part of his history, to repeat his inspirational words, and to feel the strength in them, is inexplicable! I suggest anyone that has never been to his house in Soweto to go there, I can assure you that when you set your eyes on all the memorabilia that has been so well preserved for all these years and get to see some of Mandela's history, you'll have an instead urge to be more noble and to do something more meaningful with your life, so that you too can have a little impact, no matter how big or small, in this world!

Interviewing Caboo Snoop

It's no news to anyone that I Love Cabo Snoop!!! Not only as an artist but mosty as a person. He is this super humble artist, with a beautiful success story that just touched my heart. So when I was invited to go into the Big Brother House i thought, "I'm gonna make sure Africa falls in Love with this kid"! Indeed Africa did, mission accomplished *pat on the back*.

What I loved most about my TOP MAIS interview with Cabo Snoop is how crazy(and embarrassing) it got.
First it HAD to be on the streets, cause Cabo Snoop represents "the streets", he didn't want a fancy location, said it didn't feel "real"...fair enough! But then Cabo Snoop forgets how BIG he is. So soon enough a crowd of curious fans starts to gather as I'm trying to do the interview.

So I'm wearing this micro skirt (it was the designers idea) and a big crowd has now gathered and it starts to get REALLY windy... Now guess what happens?!!!

Well... one of the MOST embarrassing moments OF MY LIFE happens!!!!!
My skirt flies up, right there in front of Cabo Snoop and his "crew", plus dozens of fans who had their cellphones and cameras ready at hand!!!!!

Oh wow, I can still see it in my mind as I'm writing this, I swear if I wasn't black, I'd be turning bright red at that moment, hahahahahah. My everything was OUT for anyone to see, Thank God i was wearing underwear! So now  picture this: You have Cabo Snoop(who's a sweetheart) trying to cover me, the cameraman who shares my sick sense of humor almost dropped the camera laughing his ass off and a bunch of very curious fans trying to get a peak and takes pictures...it was chaotic!!
So after a few minutes, the wind came down, I recomposed myself, finished doing the interview(praying  hard that the wind wouldn't pick up again and give me another Marilyn Monroe moment) and even learned a few new moves from Cabo Snoop. All in a days work. Lol
At the end, as I kind of expected, the crowd jumped on Cabo Snoop, especially the street kids which LOVE him!! So we had to get the police to escort him and his people back to the car.
All's WELL that ends WELL :-)

Never before seen footage of "Cabo Snoop and Lizha's James rehearsing for The Channel O Awards"

I stumbled upon this awesome video, which I know you'll Love. I shot it last year, during rehearsals of the Channel O Awards. Don't mind me screaming and poorly trying to sing along on the background, it was just too awesome seeing my boy and my girl Lizha do their thing! Enjoy

TRAVEL MOMENTS

I LOVE travelling, take me to an exotic country, with beautiful people, different habits, customs, traditions etc and im ecstatic!!! One of my favourite trips by far has been to Rio De Janeiro, I went there during the carnival and it was pure madness. From the people, to the food, to the places i went to, everything felt so perfect. There's no way I can explain in words all I got to see, so the best thing is to show you. I have so much footage from the trip, that it was hard to chose what to show and what to leave out, but I’m pretty sure you'll be pleased with the selection :-)

 ENJOY!!!!!!! It was amazing!!!

The series has its funny moments too. There is no one like Rizalman for stating things as it is. He just doesn't like mincing his words – not for anyone. I kind of regretted to agreeing to the moncler outlet whole thing. As you know, I'm a very busy person. But then, for that period of time, I had a team of people following me around for at cheap tiffany jewelry least 12 hours a day, he relates in jest. If you ask the crew, I really had my tantrums during filming. Because it's not every day that you are prepared to be filmed. There are also the days where you get bad news, yet the mulberry replica director will be asking you to speak about this and ddesigner, Rizalman is a favourite among royalty, socialites and A-list celebrities who prefer minimalism with a dose of glamour and an air of plush elegance. His creations range from form-fitting garments to flowy kaftans. The series will nevertheless, also detail his ralph lauren outlet many other roles in life: from being an interior decorator, fashion guru, wedding planner and entrepreneur to, most importantly, a devoted father of two sons.
