trends like Monochrome, black and white has gone crazy! “Wear it and go glam,
all types of ways to be the center of all things fashion. “Says Stephen Manzini.
Soweto Fashion Week is a podium

designers in South Africa - particularly those based in Soweto. Fashion Week
attempts to widen its perspective by encompassing two seasons, introducing a
change to the face of modeling .
Since the launch of Soweto

However Manzini is confident that in the coming summer collection this event

SKIP and DESTINY MAGAZINE LEAD THE WAY
IN FASHION RECESSIONISTA TRENDS
DESTINY magazine readers already know that money doesn’t necessarily buy you style, but the SKIP and DESTINY Fashion Exchange that took place on 26 June was a great opportunity to put that that theory into practise. The 150 ladies who attended the event at newly refurbished The Maslow Hotel in Sandton swopped high-fashion and designer clothes without any money exchanging hands. This exciting event – the first in a series of six – saw the hotel’s conference centre transformed into a stylish pop-up shop with über chic celebrities like Tembisa Kani and Dineo Moeketsi mingling with DESTINY readers.
With background music courtesy of all-girl group The Muses, guests were treated to the A-list lifestyle – sipping champagne and nibbling on canapés while the shopped till they dropped and bagged items from designers such as Hunadi, Scrabbyl, Kiyomi and Morphe on the rails.
As If the clothes and fabulous company were not enough, the attendants also received tips from style icon, singer and DJ, Unathi Msengana who graced the event as the main speaker. She shared her life story, punctuating it with anecdotes of how her style has evolved over the years. Nkayi – who also mingled with guests – was frank about how being in the public eye can be a daunting task at times and how she keeps her family life private. Style guru and Expresso Morning Show’s resident fashion director, Alexis Chaffe, educated the ladies about different body shapes and gave style tips on how best to dress for one’s body shape.
Guests were then ushered into the fashionably decorated conference centre, which had been transformed into a white oasis with blue and red accents. The garments that guests had handed in as part of their entrance ticket to the event had now been colour coded and hung up according to a co-ordinating sticker system on the tags, ready to be snapped up! Up for grabs were designer items including dresses from Hip-Hop, boots from Country Road and a pair of FENDI heels!
The next Skip Fashion Exchange takes place on 1 August in Pretoria and on 23 August in Johannesburg. Tickets cost R180 and guests need to bring three or more high-fashion items to swap. To book, call Shaakirah Van Rensburg on 011 300 6700, email shaakirah.vanrensburg@
All that’s left to do is go through your closet, wash your nearly-new outfit with Skip and dream about the glamour that could be yours in return.

Denise and Shimza add fire to two of SA’s hottest youth entertainment channels!
Two brilliantly
talented young South Africans have joined the line-up of two of the country’s
hottest youth entertainment channels. Denise
Kopano Zimba has been named as the latest Vuzu Presenter, joining the
likes of Lalla Hirayama, Thomas Gumede, Dineo Moeketsi, Fred Kayembe and
Siyabonga Ngwekazi at the popular entertainment channel.
“I’m over-the-moon at joining the Vuzu Presenter line-up. I have been given a great opportunity. It hasn't been easy, but I am extremely grateful,” says Denise of her new position. “I am aiming at bringing some real girl power to the channel and I can’t wait to become part of the lives of Vuzu’s amazing viewers. Boom Baby!”
Denise was born and raised in the North West province – and was “in love with the stage” (as she puts it) from an early age. With a singing voice that’s world-class, a strong songwriting ability and a performing talent that ensures she stands head-and-shoulders above her peers, it’s no wonder Denise has been part of the entertainment scene for some time. The sassy and playful singer first came to the attention of entertainment fans as a backing vocalist and dancer for South African urban outfit, Jozi before joining The Fly Chix. Although she is no longer part of the group, Denise keeps herself busy entertaining theatre audiences and now the Vuzu viewers.
Highly regarded house
deejay, DJ Shimza, meanwhile joins Andy X and Miss Cosmo as a resident DJ on Channel
O’s Bassment show, adding his own musical flavour to the show’s
strong mix. DJ Shimza is also
buzzed about his new role. “Being able to make use of Bassment’s groundbreaking
technology to mix videos back-to-back is a great opportunity for me and I can’t
wait to give music fans a new experience,” says the DJ who has won hearts and minds
with his cracking sounds and charitable work.
Music is also the
first love of Shimza who has been wowing house fans with his sounds everywhere
from his Tembisa home base to the UK and the USA – both through his live
appearances and his recorded output including on Soul Candi’s 10th anniversary
pack. Shimza is also community minded with his charity event – DJ Shimza’s One
Man Show – raising funds for projects in his own community.

Nigeria's love of champagne takes sales growth to second highest in the World
Nigeria's love of
champagne takes sales growth to second highest in world, however not everyone
in country where 63% live on less than $1 a day is impressed with the $50m and
rising spent each year on fizz. Nigerians' love of champagne is fast becoming
fact as well as legend – with new figures forecasting that champagne
consumption in the west African country will reach 1.1 million litres by 2017,
with 2011 consumption at
almost 8bn naira (£31m). Euromonitor found that Nigeria had the fastest growing
rate of new champagne consumption in the world, second only to France, and
ahead of rapid growth nations Brazil and China, and established markets such as
the US and Australia.
Eurominotor analyst Spiros Malandrakis said "People may find it surprising
that Nigeria came second in the rankings, but it has an extremely extravagant
elite, with Nollywood and the oil industry." Nigerians' love of big
spending has attracted growing attention in recent months. Last year figures
revealed that Nigerian tourists in the UK are the fourth biggest foreign
spenders, ringing up an average £500 in each shop where they make purchases –
four times what the average UK shopper spends.
